1. Collar

Much like many superstar DVDs of this time, you get a feature that goes over a segment of The Rock’s career. This DVD however is different than something like WWE – Hell Yeah: Stone Cold’s Saga Continues in that it focuses more on The Rock outside of the ring instead of his in-ring feuds and matches. This is a nice change from the other DVDs, but if you aren’t into what The Rock is doing on his days off than you’re out of luck.

This DVD starts around WWE King Of The Ring 1999 and ends at The Rock’s Royal Rumble win at WWE Royal Rumble 2000. Every parent loves to have photographs of their children. It is a way to pause time, for just a moment and then be able to look back, years from now and remember what it was like to have no sleep or privacy! (I'm joking!)

Child hood is a special time that travels far to quickly and then is all but forgotten, just like a child's attention span. Parents take their kids out with the best of intentions to come home with some sweet and romantic family photos, even the most well mannered child can find all the excitement a bit overwhelming (or boring!)

How are parents supposed to react when their 8 year old is frowning because he would rather be in front of the television and their 3 year old is crying because she didn't get to wear her rainbow shorts and wesminster dog show her most loved tie dye shirt.

The most important thing if possible is to find a photographer who has worked with and is good with children. It will make the whole thing go much smother when you are not having to fuss and get the kids ready for a shot, then you have a funny look on your face but the kids look like angels.

A photographer who is good with kids will get them involved, ask them questions and may even ask them to help, that way the child will feel needed and useful rather than just an object.

Try to get out side. If your photographer is comfortable with an outdoor shoot at the park or even your backyard this will greatly improve you child's behavior. As long as it is save the kids can play and move around and not feel like they are trapped. When your taking photos outside it can quickly become a fun photo frenzy as everyone dog piles on Dad (near the end of course).

If you are not able to shop around and the photographer you end up working with ether doesn't like children or is not comfortable with their high energy, be prepared and have things from home to keep the kids occupied. A teddy bear might not look so bad in the photos if that is what is making your son feel safe or maybe a video game or coloring book for your daughter to play with while she is waiting her turn.

As the parent only you know what your child's likes and limits are, just as you would pack a bag of distractions on a road trip the likely hood is than the same things will come in handy when going on a photo shoot.

[While not worthy of such, this book recieves one star simply because Amazon demanded that I rate it.]

While her methods may have won her and her dogs multiple awards in the 1960’s, Winifred’s harsh training style is out-dated and inappropriate given the less “hands-on” methods that science has found to work best for all mammals, not just dogs…

In this book, the author preaches physical punishment (slapping, hitting, jerking, pushing, pulling, “scruffing”, etc), often coupled with in-your-dog’s-face vocal reprimands, and she recommends doing it “as often as necessary”, even to very young puppies.

You’ll find lots of useless information and even more bragging, and if you follow the “steps” as the author suggests, you’re garenteed to damage whatever relationship you have with your dog beyond repair – this type of “training” will teach even the toughest, hardest dogs that you are dangerous. I highly doubt that any worthy dog owner, whether trying to better their housepet’s manners or trying to earn a formal title, would be eager to intentionally frighten or physically harm their puppy or dog.

I’ve been a professional trainer for over 15 years, and used to use the “J&P” (jerk & praise) methods with limited success – I watched dogs pass with flying colors one moment, and crumble the next. Back then, it was frustrating and often infuriating, but I know now that they sometimes crumbled for the same reason they sometimes excelled: anxiety and fear of aversives.

While there is no such thing as truely positive training (don’t let those “fluffy” trainers fool you), clicker training and using rewards (which doesn’t just mean treats, folks) has scientifically proven highly successful for a variety of mammalian species. IT WORKS, and it works 100% of the time for 100% of dogs. It takes far less time to train a dog using rewards than it does to train a dog using aversives and negative punishment, and for two simple reasons: NO ONE WORKS FOR FREE, and EMOTIONAL STRESS HINDERS LEARNING. Believing that your dog works “just to please you” or just “because s/he should” is the equivilent of your boss believing that you go to work every day just to make your boss happy – it’s ignorant, arrogant, and egotistical, to say the least. Mental and emotional stress trigger the “fight or flight” reaction that ALL mammals possess, and once that button has been pushed, learning is impossible, causing you frustration and causing your dog to move into panic mode…

While I could easily go on about this, I’ll stop here. This book may be useful for historical purposes, but for your dog’s sake, learn about the science behind canine behavior, learning methods, and training methods before you plunge into punishments and aversives. Or better yet, find a trainer that’s well versed in ALL methods of training, and have them help you out. It may be easier for you to read just one book and jump into scolding your dog for everything he does wrong, but unless you tell him what he’s doing RIGHT, in a language he can understand, he’ll never learn anything other than to fear you.

Do not get me wrong, I enjoy dogs. I was almost at the point of insanity trying to work out how to get him to behave like a normal dog.

I got dog obedience to the point where I was fearing coming home each evening to discover what surprise I had ready and waiting for me once I walked in the doorway. The best was when he grabbed the table cloth and totally pulled everything off the dining-room table. There was smashed glass all over.

I genuinely did not know how much longer I could take it. I signed on for a few dog obedience classes but in some way life always appeared to get in the way. Then, if you miss a class then suddenly you're that pet owner at class with the dog who's running around crazy when all the other dogs are in reality making progress. I was that pet owner.

I searched all over to figure out something that would work in my post. I mean there are only so many minutes in a day. I am glad to state that I ultimately discovered a program that does work. I no longer have to dread coming home each evening out to see what kinda disaster awaits me.

It's a nice feeling. So I recognize what you're going through and it Is not the end of the world.
