I have been training dogs over ten years now but I have never had a show dog so I decided to buy a few books at amazon. I found this book
Positive Training for Show Dogs: Building a Relationship for Success by Vicki Ronchette

This book is ok , I like how the author uses clicker training with dog showing ( never thought to use the two , then again never had a show dog lol) I think the book could have been better. She focuses on pre clicker training etc.. I felt this book was for people who do no know anything about dog training/clicker training. There where only 2 sections out of the book useful Which is the stacking and gating. It was also boring to me since I am a dog trainer already most of the stuff I knew already. Again its neat she uses clicker training to train the dogs for show my dog is already doing better with the 2 sections that where useful to me.

I have bought another handling book called new secrets of successful show dog handling by peter green & mario migliorini. I have skimmed through the book and this book is WAY better than Vicki’s book. If you combined these two books you will have the best dog handling book ever lol.

I decided to give this book 2 stars because only 2 sections out of the book where useful. I like books that are useful from page one to the end sorry Vicki you need to make a more intermediate book.

Is trying to control your dogs barking getting a bit of a pain when all you want to do is get a decent sleep, leave your dog for 5 minutes, or have some respected guests round without having to get the earplugs out?

Training your dog to stop barking doesn’t have to be stressful, no one likes the loud barking sound coming from your dog, especially at 3 in the morning so lets go through some tips to control dog barking.

1. Need Attention huh?

For a dog that’s a good enough reason to bark and howl the house down for you to come back and play. Try leaving the house without any fuss, Leave the house without drawing any attention to yourself and the barking will lessen and stop.

3. Bored with nothing to do!

Dogs enjoy barking, it’s something they like to do. The barking sound might not be completely to your taste but dogs enjoy it and it’s a completely natural thing for them, so if your dog has nothing to do in his spare time then barking passes the time like nothing else. Keep your dog busy with lots of exciting toys if he seems to bark a lot at night, something to chew and play with when you’re not around will help comfort the dog and keep him from barking and waking the neighbours. With nothing else to do your dog will bark through the night until you wake up.

4. Visitor time

When visitors come round it’s an exciting time for your dog, new faces, new smells and more attention than usual. This often causes dogs to bark, they want all the attention they can get in the form of cuddles and play time. You can solve this by using the ‘Stop’ command, teach him this and praise him when he listens to you and you should have no more problems with your over excited dog.

5. Be Consistent

Unfamiliarity can trigger your dogs barking off a lot of the time so keep constant with the times he barks most, for a lot of dog owners this is at night time. Decide where your dog or puppy sleeps. If one night your dog is out in the cold and the next he’s all snug and warm in bed with you or your kids you can guarantee he won’t want to be back out in the cold getting no attention from anyone again. Stick to consistency with your dog and you won’t go far wrong, otherwise you may be in for another sleepless night shouting at your dog.

Great product but awful service from Amazon….this is the only way to warn future clients…I will never buy again from them…

I wish there were a ZERO star option for reviews.

Up front, I will admit I never read this or any other of Matthew Margolis’s books. I watched his show on PBS sever times before calling him.

I had a very bad experience with Mr. Margolis over the phone. I called him for advice/help when my dog bit my friend. Margolis told me I needed to send my dog to California (from the Midwest) for “reconditioning”. He offered no other alternatives when I asked what else I could do.

When I explained that I simply couldn’t just fork over $600 for his “reconditioning” classes plus the cost to ship my dog there, he got agitated and began berating me. He even said my dog was going to probably “rip off” my mother’s face next. Obviously he was trying to scare me into sending my dog and money to California.

I told him I’d find someone in Chicago to help me and he said “Good luck because I doubt you will.” By the time I got off the phone (after 5 minutes of questions regarding the dog’s background and 15 minutes of blatent verbal abuse), I was crying (believe me, I don’t cry easily). My co-workers that were standing in my office told me they could hear him yelling at me through the phone receiver.

I found a great Pet Behaviorist (Dr. Robert Andrysco) through my vet and my dog is doing very well.

I am not saying Margolis’s books don’t work because I don’t know. Obviously, by looking at the other reviewers they seem to help some people. I’m just saying I will NEVER support this so-called trainer by buying or suggesting his products to anyone.

Dog is not only a simple animal .He can be your good friend, your defender  and your partner .Similarly you are his teacher .As we all know that Dog is the most faithful animal among all animal kingdom .Proper training should be given to each and every dog by his owner .Once he recognize you as his leader ,than he will follow each and every command given by you to him .By following few Dog Training Commands ,we can convert over dog from simple animal to a well behaved dog .Every owner should make his dog comfortable with these basic Dog training Commands .

Being a dog lover, I observe dogs very closely .I have noticed one thing that mostly dog will get bored if you are teaching them in long sessions .If you try to teach them continuously for around 20-25 minutes, they will get bored and start neglecting your command .So always go for 5-7 minute short sessions to teach him few basic Dog Training Commands .Try to repeat these sessions again and again on same day.

Here dog training show we will discuss few basic Dog Training Commands.”Sit” is the most basic command every dog should know .Mostly dogs learn this command very easily and it will make your dog sit at very point when you use this command, “Leash Training “is another important command for all dogs and puppies .Don’t ever try to be harsh with your dog by pulling and dragging him .Let him leash properly and walk with you .Give them proper time to learn this command .Don’t try to scare them or scold them during this training.”Heel “ is another basic Dog Training Command .Dog always feel comfortable while walking beside you .If he start walking in front of you ,you can bring him beside you by using word “Heel “.Don’t pull your puppy if he’s walking forward .Teach this command properly to get good communication with your dog .”Stay” is another important command for safety of your dog .This command will make your dog sit at that position where he is .This command is very important and take few time to get learned by your dog .Another command “come” will make your dog start walking with you if he is in stay position .This is also very good and important command

All the above mention Dog Training Commands are very helpful and must for each and every dog .Don’t take too long sessions and try to make him learn in short sessions. Don’t forget to praise your dog regularly as it will make him feel comfortable with you .Don’t ever give up .Keep one thing in mind that dogs are not human beings .They take some time to learn everything .Be cool, calm and consistent with them .Take proper care of his food when he is in initial stage .Try to make him fearless and well mannered. Try to play few games with him while training session .Love you dog and in return he will give lots of love and respect to you.

Be sure to understand that this method relies on being able to confine the dog to a crate or area for a few hours at a time throughout the process, without fail. If your dog will not accept this it will be difficult to follow this system. Our pup is fine at night or if we’re out of the house but if anyone is home, he’s very vocal about not wanting to stay in his crate for that long. Not what the neighbors want to hear.
The second factor is the length and nature of previous experiences the dog has had. We learned after the fact that although from a private home, our puppy spent most of his life in a very large puppy crate with his littermates for the first 4 1/2 months. When they relieved themselves, it fell down into an area several inches away. Even using the smallest crate that would be humane hasn’t discouraged him from relieving himself while inside. (The vet has checked everything, he’s physically fine)
We’ve had and easily trained several dogs in the past. In every case, they were much younger and no one was home all the time. Basically this was the method we used and it will work. Just be sure to realize what is involved.

Dogs are not easy to train. You will have to dedicate time and effort in order t train the dog. Remember that dog training is better when done by professionals. But if you really want to train your dog at home, you will have to make sure that you have learned a few things before beginning.

I have had dogs in my life for over 35 years, and in that time, have definitely experienced all the ups and downs that go along with having a pet. Despite the challenges that have come along, there is no question in my mind that dogs are truly “man’s best friend”. My current dog in an eight year old miniature schnauzer who, while a very smart and affectionate little guy, was also a bit challenging in his behavior when he first came to live with us. Not long after his arrival, we discovered that:

1. Barked at everything and jumped/growled at anyone who came to visit us

2. Was completely and totally terrified of visiting the groomers for his monthly clipping.

What could we do? We spoke with our veterinarian and did some additional research to discover some strategies and techniques to help train him…and us as well. This article will share some of the things we learned.

1. The barking/growling/jumping issue took some time because schnauzers, like all good little terriers are territorial, and are adamant about protecting that territory.
